What is a Flare Boom?

A Flare Boom is a structure which extends typically from an Oil Rig. It permits the safe burning of gas that can't be collected safely during extraction of oil from an off shore oil rig. It is extend end away from the main oil platform in order to keep the burning flame as far as is safe fro the platform, so that the heat and flames do not harm people, the equipment or platform. It may be onshore similar systems are commonly known as a gas flare or flare stack
