Legislative Background
The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (L.O.L.E.R.) came into force on the 5th of December 1998. This supplants previous Lifting Equipment Related regulations (see section on Legislation). This puts the responsibility for safe use and control of Lifting Equipment onto the Purchaser. Quite simply the owner of lifting equipment is responsible if a piece of Lifting Equipment is used in an unsafe condition. It is therefore imperative that regular inspection is carried out, followed by speedy corrective action to resolve any identified safety problems.
