Q. Where are the courses held?
A. Most courses are held at our Certex Harworth branch, near Doncaster, offshore courses can be held at our Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth branches. We are also able to holde these courses at your premises.
Q. Will attending a Certex course make me competent?
A. Like all external suppliers of training Certex cannot make you competent. It is your companies’ responsibility to decide what is required to ensure a level of competence is achieved. If your company state that attending a Certex approved training course is adequate then you will become a competent person.
Q. Why should I attend a Certex training course?
A. Certex have been providing quality training to the industry for more then 20 years, as founder members of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) you can be sure that by attending a Certex training course you are receiving the most up to date information available. Our training is delivered by industry experts with practical experience of lifting products and their applications.
Q. How does LOLER describe competence?
A. When referring to the examination of lifting equipment LOLER describes a competent person as having ‘appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge and experience of the lifting equipment to be thoroughly examined as will enable them to detect defects or weaknesses and to assess their importance in relation to the safety and continued use of the lifting equipment’
Q. Can I inspect my own lifting equipment?
A. It is essential that the competent person is sufficiently independent and impartial to allow objective decisions to be made. This does not mean that the competent person must necessarily be employed from an external company. If employers and others within their own organizations have the necessary competence then they can use it. However, if they do, they must ensure that their ‘in house’ examiners have the genuine authority and independence to ensure that examinations are properly carried out and that the necessary recommendations arising from them are made without fear or favour.
Q. What course approvals do you have ?
A. Up to recently we strongly believed that there was no governing body that would suitably approve our training courses. Fortunately for the industry the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) have recently introduced their Accredited Training Company Scheme and Certex are progressing with approval.
