Adrian Kirkham
Certex has recently seen the appointment of Adrian Kirkham as our Training Manager. Adrian spent his first 10 years of employment working at Bridon closely involved with the manufacture of steel wire and wire rope before moving into a more specialist area involved with the supply of major project work such as deepwater moorings for the offshore industry and bridge wire for the construction industry. After leaving Bridon Adrian spent the next 8 years working in various sectors within the construction industry from ground work to finishing using many of the products that Certex supply and working closely with architects and engineers. 2007 saw a return to Certex and spending time within the Harworth manufacturing unit and repairing lifting equipment within our Offshore Division has helped grow Adrians’ experience and knowledge base.
Ray Allen
Certex is fortunate in being able to employ Ray Allen as its principal presenter of this course. He is currently Chairman of the International Standards Technical Sub-Committee (ISO/TC 96/SC 3 – Cranes – Selection of Wire Ropes) that is responsible for the International Standard ISO 4309 that was more recently published and adopted by British Standards as BS ISO 4309 (recognised as the bible on rope inspection and discard).
During his forty years with Bridon, Ray spent a considerable amount of his time in field and was also responsible for its internationally renowned Inquest Department that concentrated on analysing ropes that had been in service and returned for detailed rope examination. He has extensive knowledge of the manufacture and use of steel wire ropes and in 1983 he was appointed Head of Technical Services, a key department that linked the interests of users to the manufacturing, technical and selling/distribution arms of the company.
Ray is also Chairman of the Technical Committee of EWRIS, the Trade Association representing European steel wire rope manufacturers.
George Coull
As our previous Training Manager and Technical Consultant, George has had a long and distinguished career in the mechanical handling industry. As well as a former chief examiner and ex-director of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association(LEEA), George has also been chairman and committee member of the British Standards committee MHE 3/10 for onshore and offshore cranes and was previously one of British Petroleum’s offshore crane specialists.
